That’s why our Wordle help works progressively.

01

Gentle Clue

Get a broad idea of what the answer means or relates to.

Find out where a known letter belongs.

04

See the structure of the answer, such as:

_ A _ _ E
05

Possible Words

You’ve narrowed things down, but one of several words could fit. Check the remaining possibilities.

03

Wordle Solver

Enter What You Know. Find What Fits.

Sometimes the clues from the board are enough to solve the puzzle. Sometimes you need to see which five-letter words actually match them.

Our Wordle Solver helps turn your green, yellow, and gray tiles into a focused list of possible words.

🟩 Green Letters

Correct position

Enter letters that are already in the correct position.

For example:

_ A _ _ E

If A is green in the second position and E is green in the fifth, keep them exactly where they belong.

🟨 Yellow Letters

Wrong position

Enter letters that are in the answer but currently sitting in the wrong position.

If R is yellow, you know R belongs somewhere in the word — just not where you originally placed it.

⬜ Gray Letters

Ruled out

Enter letters you’ve ruled out.

These letters should not appear in the remaining candidate words.

Then Search

Once you’ve entered your known information, the solver filters the possibilities and gives you words that fit the pattern.

The more information you have, the narrower your results become.

04

How to Use the Wordle Solver

Using a solver shouldn’t feel complicated.

Step 1

Enter the green letters

Place every confirmed letter in its exact position.

Step 2

Add yellow letters

Enter letters you know belong to the answer but haven’t found the correct position for yet.

Step 3

Exclude gray letters

Add letters you’ve already tested and know aren’t part of the answer.

Step 4

Check the results

Review the words that match your clues.

Step 5

Go back to the puzzle

Use the information to make your next guess.

The real goal

The goal isn’t simply to hand you a word. It’s to help you understand why certain words remain possible.

05

What Do the Wordle Colors Mean?

The colors are the most important clues in Wordle.

Every guess gives you information about the hidden five-letter word.

🟩 Green

Correct Letter, Correct Position

The letter is in the answer and is in exactly the right place.

Example:

_ A _ _ _

If A turns green in position two, keep A there.

🟨 Yellow

Correct Letter, Wrong Position

The letter belongs somewhere in the answer, but not in the position where you guessed it.

If R turns yellow in position three, you need to move R to another position.

⬜ Gray

Letter Not in the Answer

The letter isn’t part of the answer, so you can eliminate it from your remaining possibilities.

This is where many Wordle players save valuable information.

06

Why Your Gray Letters Matter

A gray tile may look like a dead end, but it actually removes possibilities.

Suppose you’ve discovered:

S A _ _ E

and ruled out:

BCDMTR

Your remaining choices are already much narrower.

Good Wordle solving is less about randomly guessing words and more about continuously reducing the search space.

07

What If a Letter Appears Twice?

Repeated letters can make Wordle surprisingly tricky.

A word may contain the same letter more than once, and the tile feedback can help you determine whether that repetition is actually present.

For example, if you guess a word containing two copies of the same letter but only one receives positive feedback, that gives you information about how many copies of that letter are likely to be present.

So don’t automatically assume that a gray duplicate means the letter is completely absent.

Check the full color pattern before eliminating a repeated letter.

Understanding duplicate-letter behavior can save an otherwise promising guess.

08

What Is Wordle?

Wordle is a daily five-letter word puzzle in which players try to discover a hidden word within six guesses.

After each guess, the game provides color-coded feedback:

  • Green means the letter is correct and in the correct position.
  • Yellow means the letter appears in the answer but is in another position.
  • Gray means the letter isn’t in the answer.

The feedback from each guess becomes the information you use for the next one.

The game was created by software engineer Josh Wardle and was later acquired by The New York Times, where it became part of NYT Games.

What makes Wordle interesting isn’t simply finding a word.

It’s the process of turning incomplete information into a solution.

09

How Many Guesses Do You Get in Wordle?

You get six attempts to find the hidden five-letter word.

That means every guess has two jobs:

  • Try to make progress toward the answer.
  • Learn something useful for the next guess.

A good guess doesn’t always need to be the answer.

Sometimes the best move is a word that tests several useful letters and removes a large number of possibilities.

10

How to Solve Wordle When You’re Stuck

Getting stuck doesn’t mean you’ve lost. Try working through the information you already have.

Look

At your green letters

Green letters are fixed positions. Don’t move them.

Reconsider

Your yellow letters

A yellow letter is useful, but its current position is wrong.

Try placing it somewhere else.

Review

Your gray letters

Don’t accidentally reuse letters you’ve already ruled out.

Patterns

Look for common patterns

Five-letter English words often follow familiar letter combinations.

Examples include:

-ING-ER-ED-LYST-CH-SH-TR-

But don’t force a pattern simply because it looks familiar.

Repeats

Think about repeated letters

If you’ve eliminated most common possibilities, the answer may contain a repeated letter.

Strategy

Use guesses strategically

When you have several possible answers, don’t always choose the word that simply “looks right.”

Think about which guess will give you the most useful information.

11

What Is a Good Wordle Starting Word?

A strong opening guess can reveal several useful letters at once.

Many experienced players prefer starting words that combine common consonants with useful vowels rather than immediately testing unusual letters.

Common examples discussed across Wordle strategy guides include words such as:

SLATECRANETRACECRATESTARE

But there isn’t one universal starting word that every player has to use.

The best starting word for your style may depend on whether you prefer:

  • testing common letters,
  • covering several vowels,
  • maximizing information,
  • avoiding repeated letters,
  • or simply opening with a word you enjoy.

The important idea is to make your first guess informative.

12

Should You Use the Same Starting Word Every Day?

You can.

Using the same opening word creates a consistent strategy and makes it easier to compare how different puzzles respond to the same starting point.

But changing your opening word can also help you test different letter combinations.

If your usual first guess produces very little information, try another word with a different set of common letters.

The goal isn’t to find a magical five-letter word.

The goal is to learn something useful from the guess.

13

Wordle Strategy: Think in Information, Not Just Words

A common mistake is to focus only on finding a word that could be the answer.

Instead, ask:

What can this guess tell me?

Imagine you have three possible answers left.

You could guess one of those answers immediately.

Or you could choose another valid word that tests several letters shared by the remaining possibilities.

If the second option gives you more information, it may be the smarter move.

This is the basic idea behind information-based Wordle strategy.

14

When You Have Two or Three Possible Answers

This is one of the most frustrating Wordle situations.

You know the pattern.

You know several letters.

But multiple words still fit.

For example:

C A _ E _

You may have several plausible candidates.

Instead of guessing randomly, look for a word that can eliminate letters from several candidates at once.

This is especially useful when you still have multiple guesses available.

15

Wordle Hard Mode

Hard Mode changes the way you approach the puzzle.

In Hard Mode, once the game has revealed useful letters, your later guesses have to incorporate the information you’ve already uncovered.

That means you can’t freely ignore a confirmed green letter or reuse a yellow letter somewhere completely unrelated.

Hard Mode makes each new guess more constrained, which can make the puzzle significantly more demanding.

If you’re playing Hard Mode, our solver can be particularly useful because your available choices are narrower.

16

Today’s Wordle: Hint or Answer?

There are two very different ways to use a Wordle help site.

You can search for:

“What’s today’s Wordle answer?”

Or you can ask:

“Can I get one more clue?”

We built this experience for the second type of player.

You might already know four letters but can’t place the last one.

You might know the word’s pattern but can’t think of the right vocabulary.

Or you might simply need a definition to trigger the answer in your head.

That’s why every daily puzzle should give you several levels of assistance before the final reveal.

A hint should help you solve the puzzle — not solve it for you.

17

Wordle Hint vs. Wordle Answer

?

Wordle Hint

A hint gives you information while keeping the final solution hidden.

It’s useful when you’re close but need a nudge.

!

Wordle Answer

The answer gives you the complete solution immediately.

It’s useful when you’ve finished playing, want to check your result, or simply don’t want to spend more time on the puzzle.

Both have their place.

The important thing is giving players control over when the spoiler appears.

18

20

Learn the Word Behind the Answer

Wordle isn’t only about solving the grid.

Every answer is also an opportunity to learn a word.

When you reveal an answer, useful supporting information can include:

This makes the answer page useful even after the puzzle is finished.

21

Common Wordle Mistakes

Even experienced players can lose a puzzle because of a small mistake.

Mistake 01

Ignoring yellow letters

A yellow letter is valuable information. Don’t forget to move it.

Mistake 02

Reusing gray letters

If you’ve already established that a letter isn’t present, don’t waste another guess on it unless duplicate-letter logic gives you a reason.

Mistake 03

Forgetting possible repeats

Sometimes the missing answer contains a repeated letter.

Mistake 04

Guessing too quickly

A word that looks right isn’t necessarily the best word to play.

Mistake 05

Using all your guesses as possible answers

When several answers remain, an information-gathering guess can be more useful than a random solution attempt.

Mistake 06

Looking at the answer too early

If you’re enjoying the challenge, don’t let curiosity steal the solve.

That’s exactly why spoiler controls matter.

22

A Simple Wordle Strategy for Beginners

If you’re new to Wordle, don’t overcomplicate it.

Start

A useful five-letter word

Choose something with several common letters and useful vowels.

Study

The colors

Every tile tells you something.

Lock in

Green letters

Once a letter is green, keep it in that position.

Move

Yellow letters

They belong in the answer, but somewhere else.

Remove

Gray letters

Use them to shrink the list of possibilities.

Think

Before your next guess

Your next word should either move you closer to the answer or provide valuable information.

Save the reveal for last.

If you can solve it yourself, that is usually the most satisfying part.

23

A Faster Strategy for Experienced Players

Once you’re comfortable with Wordle, focus less on vocabulary recall and more on candidate management.

Instead of asking:

“What word is this?”

Ask:

“Which words are still possible?”

Then consider:

  • ✓Which letters have been confirmed?
  • ✓Which positions are fixed?
  • ✓Which letters are present but misplaced?
  • ✓Which letters are impossible?
  • ✓Could the answer contain a duplicate?
  • ✓How many candidates remain?
  • ✓Which guess eliminates the most possibilities?

This turns Wordle from a guessing game into a small logic problem.

24

Why Use a Wordle Hint Instead of an Answer?

Because solving the puzzle yourself is part of the fun.

A full answer ends the challenge immediately.

A good hint keeps the challenge alive.

Maybe you only need to know:

“The answer starts with S.”
“There is only one vowel.”
“The final letter is E.”

That tiny piece of information may be enough to make the answer suddenly obvious.

And if it isn’t?

You can simply ask for another hint.

Hard Mode requires players to use revealed information in subsequent guesses, making the available guesses more constrained.

There isn’t one starting word that every player must use. Words containing several useful, common letters and vowels can provide strong early information. Different strategies may favor different opening words.
